Tim’s Story: Living Well with Dementia through the NDIS

Through the NDIS, Tim has been able to continue living the life he loves, surrounded by the people he cares about, while receiving the support he needs to manage his dementia. With the right care, Tim continues to live in his own home, and the modifications made to his home have created a safer environment tailored to meet his needs.

Tim’s support plan acknowledges the whole person he is—his interests, passions, and personality. The activities he engages in, like watching TV and listening to his favorite music, aren’t just “tasks” in his support plan; they are meaningful to him and play an essential role in his emotional well-being. These moments allow him to stay connected to his sense of self and remain engaged with the things that bring him comfort.

Through the NDIS, Tim has also been able to stay connected to his community. He loves going out for drives and enjoys the great outdoors, which brings him joy and a sense of freedom. These outings, supported by his support partners, help him maintain a connection with the world around him.

What matters most to Tim is that he’s not alone in this journey. He has a strong support network made up of his family, dedicated support partners, and an Accommodation Manager who work together to ensure his needs are met in ways that reflect his values and personal choices. This collaborative approach ensures that Tim’s journey with dementia is as comfortable, fulfilling, and dignified as possible.

For Tim, the NDIS isn’t just a service—it’s a pathway to a future full of possibilities, even in the face of dementia. The NDIS empowers him to live the way he wants to, with the support he needs to stay independent, engaged, and connected. The person-centred care model ensures that Tim is treated as a person first, not just someone defined by his condition.

Tim’s story is a reminder that, with the right support, it’s possible to continue pursuing passions, live independently, and maintain dignity, no matter the challenges dementia may bring.
